The Zodiac killer
It was December 20, 1968. The air in Vallejo, California was bitterly cold, the kind of winter night where even the
stars seemed frozen in place.
Betty Lou Jensen, seventeen, laughed softly in the passenger seat of David Faraday’s station wagon.
They had driven out to Lake Herman Road, a quiet lover’s lane, away from watchful parents and
the noise of the city.
Neither of them knew that someone was watching them from the darkness.
At 11:15 p.m., headlights cut through the night.
A man stepped out of his car and
approached. What happened next was fast, brutal, and forever unsolved.
David Faraday was shot point-blank in the head.
Betty Lou ran — but only made it thirty feet before five bullets tore through her back.
The killer left them on the gravel, silent and
still, before disappearing into the night.
No one saw his face.
Six months later, he returned.
